Project Description

Kismet Gopher Tortoise Relocation

Kismet Industrial Park in Cape Coral, Florida is situated on a 25-acre parcel of upland pine, saw palmetto, and xeric oak habitat.  The site contained 36 Gopher Tortoises and numerous commensal burrowing species, including Gopher Frogs, DiamondBack Rattlesnakes, and Florida Mice.

Coordination with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) was required to obtain a Gopher Tortoise relocation permit.  Turrell, Hall & Associates, Inc. initiated this process and coordinated with the City of Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Department to relocate the listed threatened species to the Yellow Fever Creek Preserve.  Turrell, Hall & Associates, Inc. has successfully completed several large relocation projects and has become proficient in the entire process of relocating these animals.
